Gain-scheduling wind-turbine control to mitigate the effects of weather conditions on the drive-train degradation

This paper presents a gain-scheduling wind-turbine control strategy to mitigate the effects of adverse weather conditions on degradation drive-train. By choosing suitable gain according wind class, it is possible establish trade-off between generated energy and drive-train degradation. The dissipated in mechanical transmission used as an indicator modeled flexible shaft using nonlinear dynamics mass-spring-damper system. Simulations consider variable speed-fixed pitch turbine 2 MW (100 m rotor diameter), with horizontal axis fixed gearbox. results show that proposed maintains desired efficiency by adequately managing turbulence conditions.
